Hyper-V Failover Clustering

A failover cluster is a group of independent computers that work together to extend the supply and scalability of clustered roles (formerly called clustered applications and services). The clustered servers (called nodes) are connected by physical cables and by software. If one or more of the cluster nodes fail, other nodes begin to supply service (a process referred to as failover). In addition, the clustered roles are proactively monitored to verify that they're working properly. If they're not working, they're restarted or moved to a different node.
Failover clusters also provide Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) functionality that gives a uniform, distributed name space that clustered roles can use to access shared storage from all nodes. With the Failover Clustering feature, users experience a minimum of disruptions in commission.

Microsoft Windows Server

Windows Server is the keystone of the Microsoft Servers category. It combines Microsoft’s knowledge and experiences with today’s trends and technology innovations to deliver a futuristic platform of products and services that help organizations transform their current server environment into highly elastic, scalable, and reliable cloud infrastructure. Windows Server provides a best-in-class server experience that cost-effectively optimizes your business.

Microsoft Active Directory

Active Directory simplifies life with a Single Sign-On (SSO) when it comes to accessing other network systems like Microsoft Office, Exchange, and SharePoint. Active Directory is the world’s leading network directory service. Active Directory also provides mechanisms for centralized policy-based management, which will be able to improve workstation security and manageability. It also can provide central storage for individuals and departments, backup, and restoration services for central storage.

Microsoft Exchange Server

Microsoft Exchange Server is the industry’s leading messaging and collaboration solution and therefore the cornerstone of Microsoft’s unified communications solutions. The system provides secure access to all means of communication (email and voice, instant messages, etc.) via any device or platform. Exchange allows you to tailor your solution based on your unique needs and ensures that your communications are always available, while you remain in control and safety. You can move to the cloud overnight, deploy on-premises, or manage a hybrid deployment with mailboxes that are both online and on-premises. Exchange protects business communication and sensitive information, simplifying internal and regulatory compliance. Built-in defenses against viruses, spam, and phishing attacks actively protect your communications. Data loss prevention features identify, monitor, and protect sensitive data through deep content analysis, and Policy Tips in Outlook and informs users about policy violations before sensitive data is out.

  • Failover Clustering has many practical applications, including:
    • Highly available or continuously available file share storage for applications like Microsoft SQL Server and Hyper-V virtual machines.
    • Highly available clustered roles that run on physical servers or on virtual machines that are installed on servers running Hyper-V.
